FLAME SAFE OSB |
Oriented strand board (OSB) has a greater load-bearing capacity than milled wood panels. OSB is particularly suited as sheathing on walls, floors, sub-flooring, roof decking and is a versatile, less expensive alternative to plywood. OSB sheathing is manufactured from rectangular-shaped strands of wood that are oriented lengthwise and then arranged in layers, laid up into mats, and bonded together with moisture-resistant, heat cured adhesive. OSB is a solid panel wood product with no gaps or voids. The OSB wooden strips are usually from the Poplar and Aspen trees, but can also be from the fast growing and smaller trees. |
Flame Safe fire retardant OSB is versatile, available in a wide variety of thicknesses, stable, and easy to work with using ordinary tools and basic skills. |
FLAME SAFE FLAME RETARDANT OSB HAS MORE GOING FOR IT THAN JUST COST Cost efficient builders recognize that Flame Safe's fire rated OSB is considerably less expensive than fire treated plywood while still maintaining the lowest flame spread rating possible and the lowest smoke development rating. Flame Safe fire rated OSB is less than half the cost of magnesum oxide or magnesum tri-oxide coated oriented strand board which must be ordered coated on both sides exclusive of the edges to be comparable to Flame Safe's fire retardant OSB. Flame Safe fire rated OSB is fire retardant treated on both side and on all edges. It can be ripped or sawn in any direction while still maintaining it's fire endurance rating. It can also be purchased in as little as a few sheets or multiple units. Flame Safe offers on site product delivery to locations througjout the United States OSB boasts a more consistent density. While a sheet of plywood might be 5 to 7 plies thick, a sheet of OSB is made from as many as 50 strand layers packed and compressed into the same thickness. There’s no equivalent of the weak spots that can be left in plywood when knotholes in adjacent plies overlap. |
•Flame Safe fire treated OSB is versatile: This is especially important for floor panels, since OSB resists buckling and helps provide a flat and stable floor. •Flame Safe fire retardant OSB can be ordered in large sizes up to 16' long and various thicknesses. And FRT floor sheathing is available 3/4" tongue and groove (T&G) as well as 1-1/8" T & G •Flame Safe fire retardant OSB Consistent: OSB panels are dense and solid throughout the product. There are no soft spots as two knot holes overlap. Hence, can be nailed at the edges without worrying about them. •Good shear strength: Shear values, through its thickness, are about two times greater than plywood. This is one of the reasons OSB is used for webs of wooden I-joists. •Flame Safe fire retardant OSB is resource-efficient because of how it’s made. Flame Safe FRT OSB is manufactured from a wide range of fast-growing species and from relatively small trees. The process uses the maximum amount of wood fiber from each tree. •Flame Safe flame retardant OSB is affordable and is always cheaper than plywood. •Flame Safe fire retardant OSB is decay resistance, more so than plywood. |
